The Impala's transmission has changed its mind about being a transmission. The S-10 was built when Bush was elected. No, not that one. His father. I need a new vehicle, and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

All you'll really find on the U.P. Craigslist are clapped-out trucks and beat-to-hell "Cameros," but this rare gem has been listed for a few months now. Problem is, all I really know about Range Rovers comes from the Top Gear Bolivia Special, and I fear the prospect of owning one of their featured vehicles is letting me see this thing through rose colored glasses.

The ad says, "Fuel Injected 4.2L V8 Runs great with no cooling issues." This isn't the rain forest; this is the Upper Peninsula. Are these Rover motors that prone to overheating? What does "Changed the hub fluid with Lucas" mean? I mean... really, hub fluid?

Check out the listing, and let me know what you guys think. An interesting vehicle to stand out among the sea of F-150s and Trailblazers here, or a hellish money pit that has been for sale this long for a good reason?

I suspect the "hub fluid" is the fan clutch and that changing it to lucas fluid is putting in a more viscous fluid. This typically means that the radiator is not healthy, but healthy enough to not overheat without a mod to increase airflow. Could be wrong though, not sure I've ever heard it called "hub fluid" EDIT: upon reading I think he's talking about the axle trunnion, and the "fluid" is CV grease. This is like saying that you've changed the oil recently, as this is an ongoing maintenance item.

Most Land Rovers fall into the hellish money pit category. Some people love them anyway, as they do have redeemable qualities. If you're looking for something more reliable than your other two cars mentioned, you should probably keep looking.

These are pretty cool, almost everyone who owns one loves it. Most also hate them, at least sometimes.

The 4.2 is fairly desirable as far as the Rover V8 is concerned. However they are prone to leaks of all kinds from everywhere, especially head gaskets. Though, for some reason, these older blocks don't fail nearly as often as Disco2 blocks. Ignition systems can be nightmarish to diagnose. Rubber parts will be on the brink of failure if they haven't been done already. Interior stuff is super brittle and a pain to work on.

"Hub fluid" is referring to the stuff in the CV joints. Originally they just had gear oil, but that would always leak out again fairly quickly, so now everyone fills them with Lucas or one-shot which is a thick fluid which is basically a mixture of grease and gear oil.

That one looks like it's had the larger cost items taken care of already.
